“Zero deforestation” : the French committment

In a 17-point strategy, the French government  called for the development of an EU action plan against third Countries deforestation by the end of the current legislature in mid-2019.

The French government wants to reach “zero deforestation” in the value chain of the agricultural and livestock sectors. The products initially targeted are those with the largest impacts: soya, palm oil, beef, cocoa and timber. Adding to the pressure from other EU countries, France will push for a EU plan too and for the inclusion of sustainability criteria in EU trade agreements.
