UNECE Forest Sector Outlook Study 2020 – 2040

"Foresta2021" - the joint 79th session of the ECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) and the 41st session of the FAO European Forestry Commission took place from 22 to 25 November 2021. The joint session  focused on "Future of Forests", providing experts, policy-makers, business leaders as well as national delegates an opportunity to discuss the global changes that affect forests in the region, and strategies to tackle these challenges.

On this occasion the UNECE/FAO Forest Sector Outlook Study was presented. It calls for a holistic policy approach to achieve climate goals.

The impacts of climate change on forests will be profound. Yet global emissions reduction models rely on the ability for forests to both sequester carbon and scale up production of innovative new products that can replace emissions-intensive materials used in construction, textiles and energy generation.

The UNECE Forest Sector Outlook Study 2020 – 2040, launched  at the joint session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s (UNECE) Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) and the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) European Forestry Commission (EFC), presents rigorous scenario modelling-based policy considerations for the forest industry to support sustainable supply-chains and contribute to global climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
