Europe is one the three leading regions for the production of sawnwood in the world at the same level as North America and Asia. In Europe the sawmill industry consumes more than 42 % of the whole harvested wooden biomass and is responsible for more than 70 % of the forest owner‘s income. While the direct employment of the sawmill activity is 272 000 persons and the revenue generation altogether € 38 billion, the induced effects of the sawn wood production in the forest-based sector are altogether 960 000 job opportunities and € 98 billion revenue...continue
